In 1886, the painting bowl with peonies and roses was completed. This still life is one of van Gogh's initial attempts in Paris to enhance his paintings' color palette. The photographs he had met in the Netherlands were too gloomy to be regarded as contemporary Art. To practice his color, he focused on the still life of flowers.
