Green Wheat Fields, Auvers was most likely created at Auvers-sur-Oise, France, in the early spring or summer of 1890, after Van Gogh had left the Saint-Rémy institution on his own accord. In place of the rural figures, stone walls, wooden carts, dramatic trees, and rustic houses in so many of his landscape paintings, Van Gogh concentrates on the wind-blown clouds and tall grasses in this picture. Van Gogh's vigorous brushstrokes in Green Wheat Fields, Auvers capture the movement of grassy stalks in the breeze.
